As the African Heritage Foundation and Our African Heritage Online continue to encourage you to invest in renewable energy sources, in particular solar generated electricity, we want to focus your attention on a report carried by Loop News in Trinidad & Tobago on a solar house. The article was written on the 3rd June 2017.
The article starts by saying “Imagine living in a home that produces clean energy, using the power of the sun, built right here in Trinidad and Tobago.” The name of this structure is called the “ECO POD”. It is an energy efficient building that is fully powered by solar energy.
The article goes on to say, “Provided by local company Davis Ecolife, this transformative new housing concept can be adapted for both residential and commercial needs."
Featuring a 10 kilowatt Solar system with battery backup, the ECO POD has more than enough energy to power home appliances such as washers, dryers and refrigerators. A highly efficient gel type battery recharges by day and also stores power for night time usage.
Traditional homes can take from six months to over a year, and sometimes years to construct. The ECO POD according to DAVIS ECOLIFE, “can be up and running in as little as 2-3 months”. The Eco Pod is constructed with high-quality, durable materials and uses the highest grade of industrial materials, guaranteed to endure dynamic local weather conditions. Additionally, the Eco Pod is adaptable based on each homeowner’s needs. Whether one wants a tiny home of 685 feet, or a larger single or multi-storey home, or a commercial building the company is happy to accommodate each requirement.
It’s a win-win situation as the company says the ECO POD will also generate annual energy savings.
“Since the pod is 100% solar powered, electricity consumption charges are virtually non-existent. All the power comes naturally and so, no bills will surprise you at the end of each month.”
As a tourism product the eco-friendly Pods can also be a good way to earn much-needed USD through tourism-related ventures.
The African Heritage Foundation and Our African Heritage Online encourages you to assist with the cutting down on the use of traditional carbon-based fuel and reducing of one’s carbon footprint. The environment and how it is cared for is the responsibility of everyone.
