“I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts, and beer.”
I am also share that sentiment with “Good Old Abe”, however, as a Rastafari man I prefer my facts with cannabis (lol). Emperor Haile Selassie I said, “A well-informed public opinion is essential to the growth of political and social awareness. Only he who is informed can comment intelligently on his nation’s development and only by such comment can errors be corrected and progress stimulated. ….. Man may, at the outset, control the direction which events take, but once his choice is made, events soon escape his control and history proceeds by its own force and momentum.”
The words of these two legendary men form the foundation for this article. I was speaking with my mother a few days ago, and she was lamenting that as it pertains to the taking or not taking of the COVID-19 Vaccine, the people of Barbados were making ignorant decisions. She went on to explain, not ignorant meaning they were stupid, but that they, including herself, were uninformed as to all the facts pertaining to the COVID-19 Vaccines, the risk involved and the impacts they are having on people. In fact we came to the same conclusion that we were being negatively impacted by mountains of information that are either for or against these COVID-19 vaccines.
This being the case, the government of Barbados like most, is telling its people to follow the science as given by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the World Health Organization (WHO). In “WHO” do we trust, ( exclamation of question). We now have a situation where reputable scientists and doctors are providing information for the people from both side of the COVID-19 Vaccine coin. As I, like many, am trying as best as I can to inform myself, in order to make the best decision possible as it pertains to the taking, or not taking of the COVID-19 Vaccine, I opened the pages of history. I wanted to see the history of the FDA, in particular its trust worthiness.
The New York Times dated March 14, 1977 published an article written by By Richard D. Lyons, entitled
DEMORALIZED F.D.A. STRUGGLES TO COPE
That is were I found what Dr Herbert Ley had to say about the early years of the FDA. In the article it stated, ” In some widely publicized cases involving the agency’s efforts at regulation, subsequent investigations disclosed that the first effect of an F.D.A. order either to ban or to restrict use of a product was a march to the White House or Capitol Hill by agents of the manufacturer seeking to use political influence to have the injunction removed. Indeed, after his departure as Commissioner of the agency in 1969, Dr. Herbert E. Ley said that “what the F.D.A. is doing and what the public thinks it’s doing are as different as night and day.” He complained further that during his 18‐month tenure he had been under “constant, tremendous, sometimes unmerciful pressure” from drug industry officials.”
It went on to say, ” As problems arise the agency becomes embroiled in thousands of cases, some of which develop into national controversies, and at times it seems that the agency lurches from crisis to crisis.
After the detection of botulism in Bon Vivant vichysoisse in 1971, it was discovered that the company’s New Jersey processing plant that had produced the tainted batch had not been inspected by the agency in more than four years.
Cranberries tainted with a dangerous weed killer, fish contaminated with mercury, artificial sweeteners that may cause cancer, oral contraceptives that may contribute to strokes, alleged cancer cures of no proven worth that draw emotional but uninformed support from a gullible public—these represent only a few of the agency’s crises.
Successive Administrations, starting with President Kennedy’s, have reacted to the controversies by throwing increasing amounts of funds and personnel at the criticism.
Since the so‐called Kefauver‐Harris amendments, which set the regulatory tone of the modern F.D.A., were enacted in 1962, the agency’s annual budget has increased more than tenfold from $23 million to $242 million, while its staff has tripled from 2,400 to 7,200.
Yet criticism of the agency has seemed to be directly proportional to Federal appropriations.
A year ago the Ford Administration was on the verge of releasing an economic‐report containing scathing criticism of the agency’s utility and effectiveness. The comments were later deleted for unexplained reasons.”.
What is my point? My point is that it would seem that the public is being asked to make a pro COVID-19 Vaccine taking choice based on the thumbs up given by the FDA. Taken from the FDA website dated August 21st 2021, ” Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty (koe-mir’-na-tee), for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.” Please take note of the text that has been bolded.
So the FDA says it is safe, so it is safe! Really? Have you ever asked the question, has the FDA ever been wrong about the safety of a drug and then had to recall it? I have, and I did the research, and this is what I found.
A few drugs the FDA had to recall.
Brand Name CHANTIX
Product Description Smoking cessation treatment
Recall Reason N-Nitroso Varenicline content above acceptable daily intake level
Company Name Pfizer
Brand Name Innoveix Pharmaceuticals Inc
Product Description Injectable Semorelin / Ipamorelin 3mg and injectable AOD-9604 3mg
Recall Reason Potential lack of sterility assurance
Company Name Innoveix Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
The list is large. This means that a lot of bad medicine gets approved, and then when the feces hits the fan it is to late for the people who have trusted in the FDA, and the like. You can take a look at the list for yourself here https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/drug-recalls
While the nation becomes more divided, and the politicians continue a place a wedge between the vaccinated and unvaccinated, we must ask ourselves the questions, WHAT IF THESE VACCINES ARE REALLY HAVING A HUGE NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE PEOPLE TAKING THEM? WHAT IF IN TIME THEY DISCOVER THAT THE VACCINES ARE FLAWED? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Informed decision making explores all possibilities and leaves very little to chance. How much are we leaving to chance?
The FDA has been placed under investigation before and the law courts heard testimony from 30 F.D.A. employees about the practices and internal management of the agency. “These accounts included serious allegations of undue industry influence, improper transfers, details or removals, alteration of files and forced withdrawal of memoranda, bias toward drug approvals, improper manipulative use of advisory committees, disappearance of critical agency action memoranda into what the F.D.A. Commissioner termed ‘a mysterious bottomless pit,’ and incredibly slow moving ineffective enforcement and compliance programs with years elapsing between the discovery of a problem and the initiation of a solution, and inappropriate use of medical officer recommendations.”
We are now in the pandemic of the 2000’s COVID- 19, and pharmaceutical companies are making a killing. I conclude this article the same way I started, with information taken from the New York Times Published May 4, 2021 and written by Rebecca Robbins and Pfizer Reaps Hundreds of Millions in Profits From Covid Vaccine” states, ” Last year, racing to develop a vaccine in record time, Pfizer made a big decision: Unlike several rival manufacturers, which vowed to forgo profits on their shots during the Covid-19 pandemic, Pfizer planned to profit on its vaccine. On Tuesday, the company announced just how much money the shot is generating. The vaccine brought in $3.5 billion in revenue in the first three months of this year, nearly a quarter of its total revenue, Pfizer reported. The vaccine was, far and away, Pfizer’s biggest source of revenue.” Read full article here … https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/04/business/pfizer-covid-vaccine-profits.html
